Jordan E. Spivack: Listen to My Music

For My Shepherd In The Field

(Joseph P. Lanzone (vocals) and Jordan E. Spivack (synthesizer))
Joseph P. Lanzone (lyrics) and Jordan E. Spivack (music)

When I made a car trip out to Arizona with my parents the week of Christmas many years ago, I was apart from Joe for almost 2 weeks. We had always spent the holidays together before (and have since). On Christmas Eve I called Joe from New Orleans, and afterward he wrote a poem about his feelings at the time. Later, I turned the poem into this song. It's part of our history together, and we're very proud of how it turned out - his vocals sound so vulnerable - haunting but hopeful, and my musical arrangement captures that twinkling sound of Christmastime - snowflakes dancing, celestial love in the air, the sound of "peaceful creation"!

FOR MY SHEPHERD IN THE FIELD

V1 Go open your motel windows

And listen to the song of this night

      Something simple, strong and cosmic

Coming on the wind, rolling with the stars

It is the song of peaceful creation

      Announcing the presence of love

No need to ever feel lonely

When there’s music coming from above!

C* So I’m not with you this Christmas Eve

So you’re sleeping somewhere in New Orleans

So you don’t believe what I believe

      This song is for you

The planets are humming far out in space

My thoughts are blurring with visions of your face

The sky is singing full of grace

This song is for you, this song is for me

      This song is for you

For My Shepherd In The Field

V2 Go open your motel windows

And listen to the song that I sing

      Something honest, warm and tender

Rolling with the stars, flowing on the wind

It is the song of peaceful creation

      Announcing the presence of love

You don’t need to ever feel lonely

While there’s music coming from above!

C* So I’m not with you this Christmas Eve

So you’re sleeping somewhere in New Orleans

So you don’t believe what I believe

      This song is for you

The planets are humming far out in space

My thoughts are blurring with visions of your face

The sky is singing full of grace

This song is for you, this song is for me

      This song is for you

For My Shepherd In The Field

For My Shepherd In The Field

For My Shepherd In The Field.
